Plasma screen tv recharging?

We're shopping for a wide screen tv with surround sound for our living room. The guy from firedog came out to do a home installation consultation and said that if we buy a plasma screen we have to recharge it every 5 years or so. When we asked the man at Circuit City about this, he said that was crazy, and that there's no way to recharge a plasma screen tv. So which is it — do plasma screens need to be recharged or is this some kind of weird urban legend? Would prefer to be answered by people actually working in the consumer electronics field.
